Which of These 3 Most Common Mistakes You Make When Lawn Mowing?

Many of you know a green grass, which is well-manicured adds a lot of positive appeal to your house. It’s important to understand, why you should first of all learn how to mow it properly. In this particular article, I will discuss the most common three mistakes people usually do when lawn mowing and why we need to avoid them. Let’s start the lawn mowing mistakes with: 1. Neglect The Mowing Height: Many lawn-owners make the mistake to cut their lawn shorter than it should be. In fact, this isn’t healthy or beneficial in any way. Lawns become to expose their surface roots to the sunlight, which leads to fast drying. In addition, your lawn will be invaded and attacked by insects and weed, because the grass is stressed and very weak from being over cut. Here is the right solution: As one of the general guideline suggests – never remove more than 1/3 of the grass blade. Professional lawn mowing companies advice you to play safe and not to cut inches of top grass. 2. Dull Blades: Mistake number two for many lawn-owners is to leave the blades of their mowers dull as a butter knife. When your lawn mower blades are dull, they don’t cut the grass, they aggressively beat it up. You might not notice anything at first, but wait a couple of days until the torn ends of the grass start to yellow in respond to the injury. Correct immediately this problem and you’ll notice a big difference. Your lawn will get easier to mow and will save you time and considerable efforts. A dull mower blades tears, rips and hacks the grass blade off, instead of neatly cut down. However, with sharp lawn mowing blades, your lawn is always cut clean. For the best cut you should sharpen the blades every couple of weeks, or at least once a month.   Here is a simple step-by-step guide how to sharpen your blades. But bare in mind to always consult the manual before mowing. Assemble the equipment you need: A pair of safety googles, Ear plugs, if you use a grinding machine, Wrench to remove the mower’s blades, Steel brush, Metal file, bench grinder or other sharpening tool, Blade balancer. Disconnect the spark plug as required for all electric mowers and tilt the mower on its side. It’s very important to keep the tool very still, therefore prevent the blade from any moving by wedging a block between the blade and the mower deck. Use your wrench to take out the bolt at the centre of the blade then carefully remove the blade to avoid any injuries. Grab the steel brush to clean the rust and the left debris from the blade. Now you are ready to the actual process. Use your file or grinder to sharpen the blades along with the original angle of each cutting edge. Remember to maintain the original angle, to file in one direction only – towards the edge. Finally, check the balance of the blade horizontally one way and, then flip it over and check again. In case, the blade doesn’t balance – file on the heavy end. To sharpen your blade seems relatively simple task, yet many won’t feel quite comfortable to perform such task. 3. Never mowing when the lawn is wet: Just as you’re ready to lawn mowing, a rainy cloud races overhead and soaks all your grass! So, now you’re out of luck, right? There are many reasons to believe to mow wet grass is dangerous. Since the grass is wet, it’s very limp and...

Let It Glow – Mega Cool Projects for The Garden

To use glowing paint has became very popular for a variety of purposes and more specifically to decorate. Therefore, I managed to dig some great ideas for the garden. I will show you how to re-make some log stools into a new gardening furniture. Moreover, I also discovered how to transform the mason jars into stunning decorations you can put anywhere around the house. However, the use of glow in the dark paint for decoration and art is widely known and was made by a mixture of Zinc sulphide and copper. More recently, a new type of glow in the dark paint and even powders are now available on the market. For this particular tutorial, you can use both options, but I’d rather do it with the paint. This type of paint can be used on many surfaces to make them glow like those log stools. What an easy way to spice up your garden and backward seating. This is a great project for those of you who spend a lot of time in their backyards and gardens, especially at night. I’ll show you how to make light pieces of rustic DIY tutorial. Because when it comes to glowing decoration, it’s never enough. There is another tutorial, in which I’ll explain how to make Mason Jar Glow Stick Lanterns. Glow in the dark log stools: To get started check in your backyard, if you have any logs. In case you don’t have any, unfinished and unpainted log stools can be picked up from the local ‘naked’ furniture stores. Consider the size of the stools and choose seating for every member of the family. Opt for smaller sized log stools for the kids. Glow in the dark paint – could be either luminous or luminescent, if possible, again in different colours. How to do it: Firstly, you carefully need to prepare the stools for painting. I suggest you to clean the dirt (if there is any). To do so, simply get an old cloth and wipe all the surface. Now it’s time to get creative and paint the stools. There are many options how to do so. You can either cover them entirely with the same colour, or to unleash your inner artist and draw different shapes/patterns all around. Personally, I’m really fascinated by those shown on the images. This swirly and simple design is created only on the top of the log stools. The red stool in particular would make you feel you’re about to literally sit on very hot plate! If you wish to add some simple details, write each stool’s owner name on the seat with a different paint. When you are ready, leave time for your new features to dry. Place the stools on a sunny and bright area outside or inside your house. This will help the paint dry faster and the glowing paint will obtain maximum light. This garden feature will enhance the beauty of your backyard. To add more glow in my garden, I found another very easy and super cool project with glowing sticks. Mason Jar Glow Glow Stick Lanterns: For this tutorial, you need a couple of jars. Once used mostly for canning, mason jars are now among the most useful craft items. Make sure, all of your jars have a well-fitting lid. You will need later on, to top the jar with the lid and shake it very well to create the effect of illumination. In case the lid doesn’t fit properly, the glow stick material could immediately spill. Of course, you’ll need several glow sticks- approximately one per each...

Why To Hire Lawn Mowing Services?

Professional lawn mowing services ensure your lawn looks neat and gorgeous every day. These companies help to create beautiful and well-maintained sceneries in your garden or around the house. As a matter of fact, few home-owners can keep up with such gardening practices. This might be a result of an insufficient knowledge on proper gardening maintenance. Here are some good reasons which explain why professional lawn services are better alternatives to take the weight of your shoulders out. Lawn Mowing Services Will Do It Right There are many specific techniques, which might be unfamiliar and difficult for the average garden-owners. A professional team, however, mows the lawn correctly, in a way to encourage further healthy growth. A lawn care service also suggests when is the best time to fertilize and weed the grass. Professionals know all the small but crucial details. As such they often mow the grass on the high side. In doing so, the grass retains more of its leaf and produces enough food for itself. If the grass is mowed too short, the lawn gradually becomes very weak and gives weed more chances to get a foothold. It usually takes less than an hour to mow an average law when a professional team is in charge. The Right Lawn Mowing Equipment: To struggle with the old broken mower is a waste of time.  The option to buy a new mower is even more expensive in comparison to the repair service. Nowadays, the market distributes a petrol rotary lawn mower for around 195$. In any case, a lawn care service has a better, more efficient equipment which will get the job done faster, safer and often with less harms to the environment. Different lawns have different mowing needs. Apart from being well-qualified and experienced, the best service is the one, which is completely equipped to the job. It’s a must for the service company to have different types of lawn mowers (electric or push along). If your backyard is big and vast, a mowing service which uses a small push mower is certainly not a good choice. Therefore, you should always ask for the available equipment of the lawn mowing service. Protect Yourself From Plants Allergies: Statistics suggest one of every five individuals suffers from a plant allergy. The worst ones are always caused by wind-pollinated plants. They produce a lot of powdery which triggers allergic responses such as sneezing, watering eyes and coughing. Mold and fungi can also cause allergic reactions. In case you experience any kind of plant allergies, then, don’t perform any kind of garden activities including lawn mowing and trimming. Ideally, give yourself a break with a well- deserved nap or a long relaxation while the lawn mowing specialists will take care of your garden. To Avoid The Insects: Many small insects and bugs love nothing more than to munch and live in your beautiful grass. Among the most common grass insects are grubs, bill- bugs and web-worms. Some people experience real anxiety and fear when they see scrambling insects. Lawn care experts use the right approach to protect your grass for these little troublemakers. They Know When To Fertilize: The lawn care professionals don’t fertilize more than two or three times a year. Fertilizing too much weakens the grass and leads to excessive mowing and watering. Professional mowing companies should provide you with organic fertilizer which will tone up your lawn and help all the little microbes and earthworms to do their thing in making your green lawn healthy. To find a lawn mowing service these days seems a bit risky. Although, most...

The 4 Syndromes of Lawn Mowing Obsession

Some people like beautiful flowers and plants. Others are into more exotic and rare varieties of plants. But some very odd individuals prefer lawn mowing. What kind of a person truly enjoys lawn mowing? For some, the lawn in their garden is the only engagement with the mother nature. According to many researches, lawn mowing is the most dangerous activity performed in the garden. People get injured really badly and in some unfortunate (or actually fortunate) cases, they give up this hobby for good. What actually drives one to become so obsessed? According to recent studies suggest lawn mowing obsession prevailed back in the Cold War when the American Dream propaganda promoted the idea of the perfect house with a white fence and green lush lawn outside. Many get into the trap to believe this lie. Now, we live in the 21st century and it seems everything is different. Besides those who take real pride in their perfect lawn. Some might ask there’s nothing wrong to take care of your front/back lawn. Well, there’s nothing wrong with it ,unless you follow the simple and wise tips : Plants and grasses are much happier and greener when not showered and overfeed with gallons of toxic chemicals; A really excessive amount of water which goes for lawn mowing while one third of the world’s population has no access to drinkable water; The lawn care industry is blood (I mean MONEY) sucker; More people are injured worldwide in lawn mowing accidents than in car accidents. And that’s over 75,000 a year. And here is what an obsessive lawn mowing means: 1. Lawn Mowing Becomes an Important Priority It’s okay to look after your house/ garden and keep everything tidy and nice. You clean the dishes at least two times per day, clean the carpet with a vacuum cleaner twice a week (if you don’t have any pets). And what about the garden? The garden matter is quite different. It’s still requires good maintaining to keep everything neat and nice. But not that often! If you ask yourself “ It’s a nice afternoon, why not just give it one more cut? “ Then you’re in real trouble. You become obsessed. The more you mow, the ticker, greener, happier a lawn seems to get. 2. You Water the Lawn too Often When you water the lawn too often, the roots fail to grow in the soil. As a result, the grass becomes weaker, thinner. Eventually, an expensive sprinkler system is installed in the garden, which immediately kills any chances for the grass to properly maintain itself.   3. New Mower and Chemicals You purchase a variety of new products. This usually begins with a more expensive electric mower and other gadgets for the garden which are downright useless. The chemicals will weaken all plants in your garden, including the beloved lawn. As a result, the grass will need more attention, thus you’ll spend more time in the garden. 4. Start a Lawn Mowing Business Some people choose to start a lawn mowing business because of the numerous financial opportunities. For you though, lawn mowing is the career of your dreams! You are allowed to legally mow your neighbours’ lawn and get paid. The pursuit of happiness is complete. By the end of the day, you have been lawn mowing around ten or even more times in different gardens. To keep the image of full perfection is the only thing you put your pants on in the...
