How to Prepare Your Lawn for the Summer

There a few easy steps you can follow to help your garden flourish in the summer but the most important thing is to start in the spring. It is absolutely essential you implement regular care for your garden all year round. Only this way you will ensure that your lawn will remain strong and won’t be affected by pests and weeds.  Number One: Aerate Aeration is a really important process for your lawn. It allows it to breathe and get the nutrients it needs. Because of the Australian climate it is recommended to aerate in the early spring. Number Two: Rake Remove any thatch and weeds by using a rake. Thatch is a decomposed plant material that piles up on the ground. If too much thatch is accumulated it can interfere with the well-being of your lawn. The best time of the year to do this is autumn. By doing so you will protect the grass and help it survive through the low temperatures of the winter. It is a good idea to combine raking and aeration and do it at least once a year. Number Three: Fertilize Fertilizing is required at least twice per year. Once when your grass is at its peak of growing and around a month before the highest summer months. Warm-season grasses need more nitrogen and the proper fertilizer provides it the best. Number Four: Proper Lawn Mowing Regular lawn mowing is not only aesthetically pleasing but is also good for the health of the grass.
